Panda General Store steps up online service during COVID-19 pandemic

When Panda General Store opened just a few weeks ago, the online shopping site offered just five pre-packed grocery boxes.

Now, as partners Evan Asato, Andrew Tran and Eric Chu prepare for this weekend’s grand opening, their store has more than a thousand items available.

“It’s become an online supermarket,” Asato said.

Before the coronavirus pandemic, Asato and Tran were running a media marketing company, helping local companies with promotional strategies, including photography and video work.

“It was doing well and growing, we had a lot of restaurants on monthly retainers,” Asato said.

But the onset of COVID-19 meant little or no business.

Then, while trying to order groceries, Asato said he was told by two large stores that he would have to wait a week for delivery.

“We didn’t feel safe going to the stores, and we needed to shop for our parents and grandparents, too,” Asato said.

General counsel at the hottest fintechs share how they got their jobs

Jeff Apfel, general counsel at Albert

Jeff Apfel - Albert GC

Jeff Apfel, GC at Albert.

Current position: General counsel at personal finance app Albert

How he landed at Albert: Apfel was originally a software engineer before pivoting toward law, working in software development at ABN AMRO Bank and Accenture. After several years, though, he found himself wanting to work on “the bigger picture,” which contrasted with the individual projects he worked on as a software engineer, and pivoted toward law.

After graduating from the Loyola Law School in 2003, Apfel went straight in-house, landing an associate counsel position at IAC, a media and Internet company. After stints at car sales platform,, and Groupon, Apfel returned to Accenture — this time as their software product attorney — in 2013.

One day, over lunch with a friend, Apfel talked about how he wanted to transition from a large company like Accenture to an in-house

Watch Sen Carper Drop a String of F-Bombs During Postmaster General DeJoy’s Hearing (Video)

Democratic senator Tom Carper was caught on a hot mic uttering a string of profanities during the Senate’s remote questioning of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy Friday morning.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic and the current Senate recess, DeJoy, a Republican fundraiser, fielded questions about the United States Postal Service’s financial situation from the Senate Homeland Security Committee over Zoom. Apparently, Carper was having some difficulties with his audio.

In the clip, posted far and wide by observers and available below, Carper was called on to question DeJoy but there was only silence, so the Delaware politician was skipped over in favor of Sen. James Lankford. Carper then appeared on-screen, peering at someone out of the frame and uttering “F—! F—! F—!”

An aide appears on screen an attempts to fix something on Carper’s computer.
